Sleep Shirt with Arm Control

A long-sleeve sleep shirt with a zipper running down each side, from the armpit to the cuff.

Zipped, you can still roll over, shift, and put an arm across your chest — your arm just can't go up above your shoulder. Unzipped, it's a normal shirt.

This is for you if you sleep with your arms up and wake up stiff, sore, or with a numb arm.

How it works

The zipper joins each sleeve to the body, so your arm can move but can't rise above your shoulder. Once the shirt is on, hold the cuff and the bottom hem and slide the zipper to wherever you want it. The locking zipper stays where you set it. Down to the elbow is a little hold. All the way is the most. One arm or both. Most people land at the elbow. Patent pending.

In a small study, researchers measured pressure inside the shoulder in the most common sleep positions. It was lowest lying on your back, and higher lying on your side or front with the arms overhead.* Awake, you'd move. Asleep, you don't.

Bed only. Unzip before you get up — every time.

Zipped, your arm can't go above your shoulder, which also means it can't catch you if you trip. Unzip both sleeves before you stand, including in the night. If your hand or arm goes numb or tingles while you're wearing it, unzip and stop for the night. If it keeps happening, or happens without the shirt, that's a question for your doctor, not for us.

Who shouldn't use it. If you're recovering from a stroke or a spinal cord injury, or you can't easily move your own arm, please don't — talk to your physio instead. If you're post-surgery and your surgeon has you in a sling, that sling is doing a job this shirt isn't designed for. Ask them first.
